Stay calm and listen...

Updated: Jun 11, 2023

If a leader takes the time to listen to others, considers their ideas, and comprehends their emotion and motivations, there is a strong possibility of turning conflict into a constructive result.

It is crucial for the leader to have a powerful presence when a combination of new and veteran workers work together. Aligning the team towards a shared purpose is tough given their different point of views and background.

I have come to realise that examining these numerous point is necessary when confronting these below mentioned circumstance. They are,

  • Identifying communication barriers

  • Establish bonding and togetherness

  • Considering past experience

  • Disagreements are not a conflicts

  • Focus on behaviour and not personality

  • Stay calm and listen first

The most important thing for a leader is the team's goal. They are the key to breaking down any personal barriers between team members.

Occasionally, disagreements arise when someone advances his personal ambition over a team purpose. The motivations may differ, but the importance of the team goal cannot be overlooked. People may be unwilling to try something new, which could result in the team not achieving its required goal. Meeting a secondary goal and lowering down expectations can result in defeat of the larger team goal. This eventually becomes an enormous task for the leaders.

Conflict resolution is essential for unifying the team. To attain this level, the leader needs to remain placid and heed all.

We achieve efficient task management through the skill of making lists as well as peer emotional support which is often needed. Listening is the key that most often helps with work-related matters. The competitive climate also cultivates a sense of trust and harmony. These subtle cues tell us how someone can cope with a stressful situation. Taking action can bring people together in larger numbers.

Listening carefully provides assurance to others that their perspective is being considered, and that it is being factored into the final result. The word 'listen' in Chinese language is pictured with a set of eyes. That is, paying attention, or making an eye contact while listening to others. It shows full concentration and respect to others, which eventually works in everyones favour.

We should create a list while eye contact is maintained with the team members. Glancing at a computer screen while engaging in a conversation is often interpreted as a lack of interest. Establishing a culture of open communication between a leader and the team is essential, with a substantial amount of time dedicated to simply listening.

Leaders are like tranquil seas with deep wells of wisdom and offering countless chances with a purposeful attitude.
